How to turn your “Smart” Home into a “Genius” Home!

If you have already started your Smart Home and want to take it to the next level and make your Smart Home a Genius, read on for some ideas. This blog post will discuss 6 ways to take take your home from Smart to Genius Level!

At the bottom of the Smart Home Organization level is a single accessory i.e. a Smart Device like a light switch or a Smart Door Lock. You can add one single Smart Device / Accessory to your Smart Home or you can add 100 accessories. Each accessory is associated to a Room of your Smart Home. For example, if you add a Smart Door Lock to your front door, you might create a Room called “Entrance” and associate this accessory to your Entrance Room. Likewise, if you add a Smart Light Switch to your kitchen, you would create a Kitchen room and associate this accessory with the Kitchen room. You can have as many Rooms as you need for your Smart Home.

The next level is called “Zones”. This allows you to group Rooms together for easier control of your Smart Homes. A good example of this is creating a “Downstairs” Zone and adding all of the rooms that are physically downstairs to this Zone. This gives you the ability to say “Hey Siri, turn off all Downstairs Lights”. Another example could be creating a Zone for your Front yard or Back yard.

Need to see how to add “Scenes” as a level to Smart Home.

The next level is called a “Scene”. This is grouping Smart Devices/Accessories together as one item aka “Setting a Scene”. For example, if you to turn on the front yard, back yard and courtyard lights at once, you can create a Scene called “Turn on All Exterior Lights”. You simply add all the Smart Lights to this scene and you are done. You can now say “Hey Siri, Turn on all Exterior Lights” and Voila! All of these lights will turn on at once.

The next level is Automation within your Smart Home. A simple example of this would be to create an Automation that locks all of your Smart Doors at 10:00 PM everyday. Or, to turn off your HVAC if a sliding door is open for 5 minutes or more.

The top level of a Smart Home is inviting others to access and control your Smart Home. For example, if you want to allow a relative or a Property Manager to have access to your Smart Home, you can invite one or more people to a specific Smart Home or to all of your Smart Homes.

Remember that while we covered the levels within a Smart Home, you can create as many Smart Homes as you need and replicate adding Accessories, Rooms, Zones, Scenes, Automation and People to each Smart Home as needed.
